Put a Spring in your Step with STEM From Dance!: Spring 2016

In our eNewsletter, we like to share student stories and testimonials, and this season’s comes from Tamia, one of our students at Girls Prep in the South Bronx. We asked her a few questions about her experiences with STEM From Dance. Here were some of her answers:

Q: What’s the most important thing you’ve learned from STEM From Dance so far?
“I learned to be confident in my dances and not be too scared of my audience. One of my favorite moments was when we got to perform for the teachers. I am usually shy but my instructors gave me advice that actually helped me stay calm. ”

Q: What did you think of coding when you started? How has that changed since being in STEM From Dance?
“When I first thought of coding I thought it was extremely boring but after attending STEM From Dance it was actually very fun!”

Q: What is your favorite part of STEM From Dance?
“My favorite part of STEM From Dance is that we get to choose our moves with the help of another dancer, and we learn stuff like coding which could actually help you later in life if you want to be something that involves science, technology, engineering, or math.”

Q: Would you recommend STEM From Dance to other girls at your school or other schools? If so, what would you say to them about the program?
“I would definitely recommend STEM From Dance to other girls both in schools and out of schools. If I had to describe the program I would say it is free, fun, and inspirational.”

We want to thank Tamia for being willing to share her experience with us and congratulate her on her wonderful work with STEM From Dance. If you want to check out what she and her class have been doing, check out the bottom of this email for performance dates for Girls Prep and other partner schools.
