Jonay participated in Girls Rise Up for the first time the summer before her junior year of high school. She had participated in dance before but never really had an interest in STEM. Yet she was surprised by how much she enjoyed the STEM portion of the program. When she started college at Adelphi University, she felt empowered to step out of her comfort zone because of what she learned during the program. She began taking business courses and discovered her love for finance. Jonay says STEM From Dance “was a way to understand my capabilities, especially as a Black woman pursuing a professional career. I don't have to limit myself to what I do; I have options.”
